Greg opens up his songwriting book once more and shares the lyrics to his rough, guitar-rock song ‟Prisoner of Fake News‟. He opens up his 2nd album ‟Shout My Name‟ with this title.
You don't have to reach far to understand where his inspiration comes from. We experience fake news every day in our modern world. ‟Prisoner of Fake News‟ is meant as a warning to you all:
They whisper in the wires, shadows dressed as light,
Selling fire in the headlines, burning truth at night.
Fear’s a loaded weapon, they hand it out for free,
But silence holds the answers they don’t want you to see.
Oh, the lie walks faster than the day.
Truth comes limpin’, but it finds its way.
Keep your heart steady, question what you choose,
Don’t be a prisoner,
Don’t be a prisoner
Of fake news.
Silver-tongued deceivers, spinning doubt like gold,
Stories dressed in secrets, a thousand tales retold.
The louder comes the shouting, the softer wisdom speaks,
Truth don’t shout in anger—truth is calm, it’s deep.
Oh, the lie walks faster than the day,
Truth comes limpin’, but it finds its way.
Keep your heart steady, question what you choose,
Don’t be a prisoner,
Don’t be a prisoner
Of fake news.
A spark can start a fire,
A word can start a war…
But truth don’t need an army,
It don’t knock on your door—
It waits inside your core.
Oh, the lie walks faster than the day, (yeah it does)
Truth comes limpin’, but it finds its way. (finds its way)
Keep your heart steady, question what you choose,
Don’t be a prisoner,
Don’t be a prisoner
Of fake news.
